Builders lead the way in biscuit safety
Those in the trade are the least likely of any profession to have a biscuit related injury at work, a recent study claims.
The research, carried out in conjunction with The British Biscuit Advisory Board (BBAB), included over 1500 people in a diverse range of jobs – from street entertainers and nurses to bankers and judges.
The study, which took over a year to complete, revealed that builders are half as likely as train drivers to have a biscuit mishap at work, and up to six times less likely than a petshop owner.
Celebrity builder Brian Cox from UKTV’s Trade Builders told us, “It makes sense when you think about it, we’re health and safety mad what with our hats and florescent jackets and that – and of course when we have a tea break, we’re still ready for anything. Whereas if something happens in an office or a school, they’re left exposed.”
The BBAB is currently in talks to secure further funding to find out if the best practices from the building site can be developed for use in hospitals, offices and schools.
A BBAB spokesperson commented, “In an ideal world everyone would take more precautions when eating biscuits but it’s simply not practical to equip every man, woman and child in the country with the proper protective clothing and necessary training.”
The whitepaper containing the complete research may never be fully available, as ministers are reluctant to release details of the profession most at risk – fearing a skills shortage in that sector.
